On behalf of the London and South-East Branch of the Clarsach Society, I am pleased to invite you all to a day workshop with the wonderfully engaging and vivacious Eleanor Turner. The workshop is aimed at lever harp players, but as always, pedal harpists are more than welcome!
Eleanor Turner leads a whole day of workshops exploring the elements of harmony, rhythm and a fun 'Zero to Hero' jazz session, especially for those lacking confidence and/or knowledge of vamping, licks (playing them, not licking the harp!) and the 12 bar blues.
You will play together as a group in three sessions throughout the day, with only brief moments of solo playing. Eleanor will guide you through her ensemble pieces 'Alice in Escher's Wonderland' and the groovy 'Ice Cream Days' to explore counterpoint, call and response, melody and accompaniment. Ellie will also guide you through the mysterious arts of trilling, damping and buzz banishing, as well as finding different tone 'colours' to infuse your playing with warmth, symphonic majesty, sylph-like agility and mercurial smoothness.
The Workshop and concert is being held at the Blue Orange theatre on the northern side of the Jewellery Quarter. Parking at the theatre isn't brilliant, but you will be able to stop outside the front doors to unload. I will be at the theatre from 9.30am so that I can help people bring their harps in and also to pack out of the theatre afterwards.
Please bring, the usual things: Harp, music stand, pencils etc. The chairs at the theatre aren't brilliant, so you may want to bring your own stool. Tea and coffee will be provided, and please bring something to share for lunch.
Workshop and Concert £30
